Over 250,000 animals fall victim to animal hoarding per year. Animals in hoarding will endure starvation, social neglect, and many medical issues. Nassau County SPCA has rescued up to 400 animals from just a single home. Animal hoarding has become a big challenge for us, the large number of animals rescued can result in high medical and boarding costs.
Dog fighting is an underground operation which can make it very difficult to spot. The NCSPCA’s humane officers are specially trained in identifying signs of dog fighting. We have been successful not only with rescuing dogs out of dog fighting but rehabilitating and placing them in loving homes. The Nassau County SPCA offers a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of dog fighting.
These animals have been robbed of life. Caged & forced to breed, they can go their entire lives without being held or setting foot on ground. The NCSPCA conducts investigations of local puppy mills & similar operations, rescuing countless animals from appalling conditions. Animals rescued are extremely fearful and require lots of socializing before they can be successfully adopted.
